Just got back from Berlin, where I watched my first Sarah Maguire show since she left The Golden Rule. Her new songs are very fabulous!, and as a solo artist she can really hypnotize a crowd with her musical storytelling. We went into Analog Poodle studios together and captured 6 of her latest creations-- which she is selling at her shows, in order to keep us both in vegan snacks and good Galao Soy Cappucino.

Nowadays I am working on new videos, re-mixes and mastering for swag to put up on Gordotronic.com when its finally ready for public consumption, which- according to my interweb guru in Beverly Hills, is nearly ready to come out of the digital oven!

Furthermore we are putting delicate and magical brush-strokes on Ricky Berger's new (title is still a top secret here) album in the way up mountains of California. She is playing flute, voice, nylonstring guitar, banjo, Yamaha grand piano, home organ, glockenspiel, ukele and is creating a lush soundscape with a zillion interwoven vocal harmonies and guest musicians (Tuba?? wow!)

Summer Outside of the City

08 July 2011

Been hanging out west coast USA-California, Oregon and Washington State. After touring in San Antonio, New York, San Francisco, London and Berlin recently the views of the Pacific Ocean are extraordinarily uplifting. I can feel the days and days spent in recording studios begin to harmonize nicely with the ever present "big picture" that our planet's natural surroundings offer in the way of inspiration and freshness. I truly recommend a slow journey up Highway 101 to check out this untamed part of our planet-- espcially the Northern California and Oregon segments.

ciao for now--   Gordon

Gordon Raphael-

Speaking to Orlando Today regarding the ARP Solina String Ensemble:
The analog nature of the circuits means it feels warm and wide and crunchy..especially when I run it through my Mutron Bi-Phase phase shifter and some tape delay, and then put all that through a big wooden Leslie Speaker thasts spinning slowlym then fast. Its as close to outer space as we are gonna to get, thanks to massive budget cuts in the Space Program!!!

San Antonio Texas

21 December 2010

Well, in 2001- when The Strokes record first came out in London, as soon as I landed there to watch some of their early tours- the people and musicians recognized me cuz the boys had put a huge picture of me on their cd- this meant instant work, and instant smiles from the fans of that album.
Now, almost 10 years later, the same thing is happening again for me here in San Antonio! One 21 year old guy named Josh Villareal told me that he wanted me to come here. He said that there's a vast and talented scene here- that would only need me to show up, and it would ignite to a high level. To make a long story short- he lined me up with a studio, some assistants, and 3 bands that said they'd pay me to record them. This was all I needed, so I came. He also did a pretty massive PR campaign on my behalf, and by the time I landed the whole town's music scene was ready to meet me, offer their services, and the work just piled in, seemingly adding a new band to work with every day that I stay here. The second day, I Dj'd at an outdoor party while in my hometowns of Seattle, New York, London and Berlin my closest friends were all freezing their butts off!! Everyone at the party stepped forward to introduce themselves. There were video projectionists, people who had spare houses for me, people with music equipment that I could use, lovely models, software programmers, web builders and music managers- all of whom said they wanted to work to help me do whatever I wanted here!
On the third day I began an album by an amazing band called Education. On the fourth day their manager offered to help me start a record label here, and help me get my 5 year long project Gordotronic off the ground. I also want to start my own band and begin playing shows and Dj'ing to a high degree.
Thats the story so far. I finished the Education record in 8 days, and now have begun the second (by Tangible Green) one, in a series that seems to growing and growing! x Gordon

Sparrow singing with Doctors and Dealers

14 September 2010

sparrow.jpg

I worked with Sparrow in Stockholm and Berlin, and she's about to release a new Doctors and Dealers record that you can hear right now. Its very unique music, coming from a very classy and classic writing style;;;;precious few of the trademark "earache guitars" I'm usually known for!! Please check the songs Trouble  and Backstabbers- and see what I'm on about. Mr Raphael even sings a nice choir part in Trouble. Mwahhhhh.

THE PLASTICS GO #1 !!

08 September 2010

the_plastics.jpg

The song Jukebox from record SHARK produced by Gordon Raphael has been number one on rock radio in South Africa where the band The Plastics hail from (and incidentally where we recorded!) Going there in January was a fantastic change from the -15 degree weather in Berlin, but what wasn't expected was how cool and great sounding The Plastics actually are as a group of musicians.

You can sneak a peek at a secret website we asked them to create here

and visit their myspace page here:  http://www.myspace.com/theplasticsband

Hooray for SHARK, long may he bite and swim.

Calendar - a great Band from Argentina

18 August 2010

Calendar_band_shot.jpg

I had the fine pleasure to produce Calendar's very rare and excellent record "Bombs of Gold", and stay with them in Buenos Aires. I had no real expectations when I went to work with them, and kind of imagined we'd be creating a raw punk rock album-- I was very surprised at the depth of emotion and creative power that this band showed me, and soon will show the world when their album is released.

You can download for FREE the first single entitled, artfully enough "Assholes" here : www.calendarmusic.comand also see entertaining films of us all working together in a killer, world class studio (Casa de Musica) in a tiny little town in the countryside (Villa Mercedes) here  http://www.calendarmusic.com/page/3/

I totally support/recommend this band and their music, and hope you all find out what I have seen and heard in their sound! x Gordon Raphael
